Alexandria Film Festival Opens Submissions for 20th Annual Festival
Filmmakers Worldwide Invited to Submit for November 2026 Event
The Alexandria Film Festival is now accepting submissions for its 20th annual festival, taking place November 13 to 15, 2026, in historic Alexandria, Virginia. Filmmakers from around the world are encouraged to submit short and feature-length films of all genres through FilmFreeway.
Recognized for showcasing high-quality independent cinema, the Alexandria Film Festival brings together filmmakers, film lovers, and industry professionals for a weekend of screenings, filmmaker panels, and arts presentations just minutes from Washington, D.C.
Celebrating Independent Film in Alexandria
Now entering its 20th year, the festival highlights local, national, and international filmmakers while creating opportunities for audiences to engage directly with artists. The festival has become a signature cultural event in Alexandria and continues to grow its reputation as a welcoming destination for independent film.
Beginning in 2026, the Alexandria Film Festival will also make its permanent home at MetroStage’s new theater in Alexandria’s Old Town North Arts District, expanding opportunities for screenings and filmmaker engagement.
Submission Deadlines
The festival offers four submission periods, beginning with the Early Bird Deadline and concluding with the Extended Deadline. Submission fees increase with each deadline phase.
