FAQs About Neurofeedback
We’ve collected and answered some of the most asked questions regarding neurofeedback training. We also have more information on our website if you visit What is Neurofeedback, Brain Mapping, and our services pages. Additionally, we’re happy to answer your questions through our contact us page or you can speak with a staff member by calling 336-480-7623.
Is neurofeedback painful?
No! Neurofeedback is pain free and non-invasive. During the neurofeedback sessions, the patient simply wears a headset with sensors gently attached to their scalp while they watch a movie. Patients relax and watch the movie during the session. For more information on what to expect, visit our “What is Neurofeedback” page.
Will neurofeedback change my personality?
Neurofeedback focuses on balancing brainwaves which does not change your personality, it simply reduces the negative symptoms you are experiencing. Many patients report that they feel more like themselves or as though their personality is enhanced because their symptoms and behaviors are relieved and no longer negatively interfere with their daily lives.
What are the side effects of neurofeedback?
Side effects from neurofeedback are minimal. Some patients report that they occasionally have a short headache or feel irritable after a session, but the majority of patients report feeling happy and in a good mood following neurofeedback training sessions. Many report better sleep after the first couple of sessions.
Who can do neurofeedback training?
Neurofeedback training is for all ages! At A Restored Mind, we treat kids and adults of all ages. Each treatment plan is personalized to the individual and because the sessions are relaxing and non-invasive, this treatment can help people at any stage of life.
Do I have to do neurofeedback forever?
No, you do not have to do neurofeedback forever to achieve positive results. Each person’s therapy is individualized, so there is no set number of sessions for everyone. However, once the sessions are complete, the pathways are permanently retrained so unless you experience head trauma or injury the results will be long-lasting. Some children will benefit from additional therapy as they continue to grow, but that is not always the case.
